Today’s topic is a really important one for me and I feel like it might be the same for others. At least 7 out of 10 people that I have given advice to will tell you that I give really good advice. I know I give good advice and I know that for the most parts I live a safe and comfortable life. I will admit that I don’t take enough risks and fortunately and unfortunately that is reflected in my life and the decisions I make.
With that being said, as usual for an Ask An Adult post, I asked reddit on how people build trust in themselves. This comment below gives really good overview on our topic of the day and although I don’t need to add more to it, I feel like I can self-reflect a bit.
Today’s reflection will be based on past experience answering the question:
When have I made good decisions in the past?
The first thing that popped up in my head was when I decided to put in the work on a consistent basis to get a first class in my undergraduate – which was about 2 years ago. Outside of that, I find I am having to think deep to come up with something.
What was the outcome of a time when I trusted myself? How did I feel afterward?
I got a first class. I felt numb especially on my graduation day especially because I was so drained due to the amount of work I had to put in. At the same time, I felt really proud of myself for making a decision and sticking to it. If anything, I was more proud of the hard work I put in than the actual result.
What lessons did I learn from the decision and the outcome?
The result is the easy part. The decision to be dedicated , consistent and showing up for my self was the hard part. What kept me going was know that I felt like I owed it to myself and I had no excuse.
Take Home Question:
What good decisions do I want to make? and what outcome do I want?
